CHIPMUNK

Heralded as his biggest single yet, Chipmunk will be waiting to see how high his new single Oopsy Daisy gets to in the charts. Can it do better than the massive hit Diamond Rings? Chipmunk himself stated on his last track that he was “not going to be a one hit wonder”: but we will have to wait and see.

EMMA DUESTER
Chipmunk - Oopsy Daisy

Oopsy Daisy is very different to Diamond Rings and his other previous releases. And I am not sure it will be as memorable as Diamond Rings or Chip Diddy Chip as it is does not stray from the generic sound; you could be mistaken to be listening to a Rhianna or Kelly Rowland song.

So, it is not likely to be everyones “cup of tea” but what he has tried

tried to do is to make the song appeal to as many people as possible. It is a far more commercial record and, for instance, most can relate to and will be in very familiar territory with the song topic as it is about a relationship breaking up. So no groundbreaking issue here but, all the same, it is very listenable and it does in fact grow on you. Also, there is a fast piano and bass beat throughout, carrying the song. It is a song to listen to at home, whilst preparing for a night out, but I doubt you would hear it as the biggest tune in the nightclub.

Chipmunk is a rapper from north London, whose real name is Jahmaal Noel Fyffe. Chipmunk is only nineteen but already he has won Best UK Newcomer. He was first introduced by Tim Westwood on BBC Radio One, who announced him as the future of UK grime. Many are now saying that Oopsy Daisy, his third single, could be his first number one. However, will he ever be able to break through when Tinchy Stryder is in his midst?

Having just done Reading and Leeds festival he is now going on to perform at Eden, Ibiza, on 10th September and will then be touring alongside Tinchy Stryder on a University fresher’s tour, including venues such as Cardiff, Bristol, Leicester, Sheffield and Warwich.

Oopsy Daisy is available to download on 4th October and in shops one week later. His album, “I am Chipmunk” is released on 12th October, including other singles such as Beast and Chip Diddy Chip.
