GOLDCOAST OCEANFEST
GoldCoast Website

A chance to listen to internationally renowned artists and maybe try out a little bit of surfing whilst relaxing on a beach and watching the sun set over the sea. Does this sound like your kind of festival?

This summer is set to be the 11th consecutive Goldcoast Oceanfest, held on the 19th, 20th and 21st June. It is

EMMA DUESTER
GoldCoast Oceanfest

North Devon’s largest festival, showcasing internationally acclaimed artists as well as athletes competing in oceansports. The fun-packed surf and music weekend gives you the chance to take part in surf lessons or BMX biking (to name just a few).

Held on arguably one of Devon’s most beautiful beaches, Croyde Bay will be transformed into a miniature town of music tents, sporting arenas and a Trade Village.

This eclectic mix of sport and music will be brought together by this year’s headliner, Jason Mraz. As well as his fame in his home city, San Diego, he has gained notoriety over here, where he is now said to be the next Jack Johnson.

Alongside Mraz, the Oceanfest has a very special guest. Newton Faulkner, who has played in previous years, will be performing on Saturday 20th June for a 30 minute guest slot appearance where he will perform material from his second album which will be released later in the summer.  He will join Mraz for a duo performance on the main stage, also on Saturday. Other artists in the line-up include 21 year old Ben Howard who has just recently won the Red Stripe Music Awards. Friday’s line-up includes Cablecar Catastrophe, Douglas E. Powell, Amy Newton and The Breaks. Also on Friday is the UK premiere of the iconic surf movie, Bustin’ Down The Door.

For Saturday there is Dave Gander, Neil Halstead, Ruarri Joseph and The Martin Harley Band. The headliner and special guest, Mraz and Faulkner, will be performing from 9pm. On Sunday the Devils Delta Blues, Gideon Conn and Liquidators are performing. The calibre of artists in this year’s line-up reflects how the Goldcoast Oceanfest has grown and gathered reputation, with this year set to top previous years.

The 25 live music acts are joined by local talent in surfing, beach football, kite surfing and BMX jumping. By hosting these sports, the festival hopes to raise awareness of the oceansports industry and, more particularly, the area of North Devon. After starting in 1998, it has always been the Oceanfest’s aim to act as a vehicle to promote new bands or artist as well as oceansports.

Whatever your age, music preference or sporting enthusiasm, it is guaranteed to be a great weekend.
