Ok, so first off I must iterate the fact that this particular run down is in no particular order, nor is it a definitive list of the best British record labels of all time (as if such a breakdown could ever be truly quantified). It is simply a list of some personal favourites within the British...MORE>>

Yes, we liked that one! It‘s not as if Reeperbahn as such wasn‘t a place which is usually full of life, but the atmosphere during the festival was absolutely vibrating. No wonder, considering the mass of concerts taking place in about 20 selected clubs, bars and concert halls around the Reeperbahn. Be it Übel & Gefährlich (meaning Evil & Dangerous) where we had to climb what seemed like a thousand steps - we only got to know about the elevator later - to see Ana and Carla of the Brazilian electro crew CSS playing an awesome set which made the crowd dance there heels off. The view

over Hamburg from the bunker‘s roof-deck was also hard to beat.

REEPERBAHN FESTIVAL 2009
Reeperbahn Festival 2009

A trip on the barge Frau Hedi was a recommendable thing, too. Gliding through Hamburg‘s harbour for about an hour and listening to German singer Janina‘s intelligent and provocating vocals meanwhile, was what we call enjoyable. Unfortunately and in spite of hitting the venue Große

Freiheit 36 early, we weren‘t able to get in and join the Deichkind concert, due to overcrowding. But after all we heard, the German technorappers even surpassed their usual freaky performance. Although Emiliana Torrini‘s presence was enough to fill D-Club, one of the festival‘s biggest locations, she couldn‘t make people‘s hearts beat like a jungle drum. Even while performing her

number one hit the audience stayed totally calm, which made us pity her because she seemed to be enjoying herself in a way that resembled that of her compatriot Björk.

The best concert - of those we attended - was without doubt the Editors one. Playing at D-Club as well, they created a hilarious atmosphere and made the crowd go wild.

The Reeperbahn Campus was a premiere at this year‘s festival. It‘s slogan Creative Industries Meeting Northern Europe invited journalists as well as experts from film, IT, media, design and music to join a number of presentations such as Brands & Music or daily shows presented by MTV legend Ray Cokes. The versatile framework programme containing exhibitions, movie screenings and after-showparties combined with a broad variety of music styles, including electro, jazz, indie, rock and hip hop, presented in a unique setting, is what made this festival a success. The number of Reeperbahn Festival visitors has increased ever since it was introduced in 2006 and it has grown to be the European club festival. This time it was joined by more than 17.000 people and as there is absolutely nothing bad to say we are pretty sure there will be even more next year when

Reeperbahn Festival will take place from September 23 - 25. For more info check out:
