Ok, so first off I must iterate the fact that this particular run down is in no particular order, nor is it a definitive list of the best British record labels of all time (as if such a breakdown could ever be truly quantified). It is simply a list of some personal favourites within the British...MORE>>

Electro-cheese. Tacky 80s inspired brilliance. Pure guilty pleasure. These are all valid ways of describing Sleepercurve’s new track Robots.  But if you can’t handle a bit of catchy pop/dance nostalgia then you had better change the station. But before you do, admit it, you kinda like it don’t you?

Sleepercurve are a British Indie/progressive/I-don’t-know-what band who are really making a name for themselves lately. Their new single Robots is released on the 16th of November, so if you’re struggling for ideas for Christmas, you know what to do. I’m not even being overdramatic. This band is the proverbial shit.

Somehow, they have managed to steer clear of the sub-genre of the Indie scene which feels like it has started to stagnate: the tiresome fusion of dance, pop, rock, electro. Do they sound totally over the top? Yes. Do they bring a fresh sound to contemporary Indie? Yes. Is their style highly glossed? Hell yeah! But you know what? They never

ever sound unknowingly pretentious, unintentionally cheesy, or plain and dull. They really know what they are up to. And if they don’t they’re missing a trick.

Good news is we wont let this band go unnoticed. We can really sink our teeth into their raw sound whilst its new and unblemished , and appreciate it as something original and interesting.

If you want to check them out, they are playing a few dates in southern England this year, but if you can’t make it to one of them, I am sure they will be keeping themselves very busy in the coming new year.

The song in question, Robots, starts with a thrashing synth which is distinctly hyped up and energetic. The vocals are pretty tight, and sound very 80s-ish, more likely to come from the mouth of  Simon le Bon. And the guitar work is pretty admirable in its simplicity. It accompanies the catchy synths with an even catchier riff.

The chorus is pretty decent and well structured, if a little predictable. Then we get a random break down where the synth skills are put to the test Eddie Van Halen styley.

Lyrically there’s not an awful lot to say about the song. It’s hardly a great work of lyrical expression, but the way it is delivered is impeccable.

What this band does, they do extremely well, and they really seem to have a good chance at making a name for themselves. Hopefully their bravery will persist and they won’t be afraid to challenge the mainstream market which is crying out for something new.
